Curioser and Curioser

Just had an email purporting to come from YouTube saying an attempt had been made to change my password. Out of curiosity I tried to log in and it worked. Needless to say I did not use any links in the email - I am far too wary to do that. All the videos are there but none of the thumbnails exist. People looking at my blog pages with YouTube videos will just see the title of the video and a drawing of a camcorder but clicking on the play arrow seems to work. Maybe Adrian was right when he mentioned hacking as a possibility.

Let's hope they stay available which will save me weeks of work.

Thanks for all the encouragement from those who commented on my last post.

Another curiosity - Honey didn't arrive until after 2 a.m. She either overslept or found food elsewhere. She didn't eat as much here as she usually does. As a test I have successfully uploaded this to my YouTube account. Now we will see how long it stays in view!

  2. Hi John, Me again! I have just looked at your video clips on YouTube and they seem to be all there. You have 96 uploads, I viewed a few of them. I love the video clip of the adult Goldfinch feeding its young on the ground.

  3. I'm glad things are improving John, I felt so sorry for you this morning, I know I would have been devastated had I been in your position. I'm glad you didn't click on the links in the email, it could have been genuine but you can't be too careful. It seems like something odd has been going on as I found a string of people who had actually posted on google today with the same problem as yours, there were also others who had had the same problem in the past.

What with that, Honey being out of kilter and the no good new camera it really hasn't been your day today! I wish you a much happier one tomorrow John :)

  4. Hi Lynmiranda,

Yes. I tried several of them using a different browser so I was not signed in and they all worked.
I was really fortunate to catch a bit of video of adult birds feeding their young. Fascinating to watch.

  5. Hi Jan. I was absolutely devastated first thing this morning. I am just beginning to calm down. It will be even better when I remember where I put the brandy bottle :)

Yes I saw several reports of people having difficulties. I doubt we will ever find out what really went on. It could well have been someone hacking into the system.

I keep getting dirty looks from a certain pooch as I have spent so much time on the computer today when he thinks we should have been out in the sunshine.

Look at the above link and I think you will find the answer. They have made changes and it was today 30th September that some of the changes took place.

  10. All's well that ends well, let' hope it does. Strange things happen on the internet for a week or so my font size varied randomly. C'est la vie!

  11. Sorry to hear you have had such a shock with the YouTube craziness... sounds like someone threw a spanner in the works, especially if so many were affected. Probably just a glitch with YouTube. Hopefully all will be sorted out. Also, hope you found your brandy bottle in time...although your toe might not appreciate it! My son uses Vimeo to upload videos. Have you heard of that option?

I was going to comment on the profusion of goldfinches dining at your bird bistro! What a plethora of plumage! (That was to bring a smile :)) I was amazed at the number of them... started humming ... Goldfinches...to the tune of Goldfinger!

What do you think of the idea of moving your hedgehog house nearer to Honey's feeding area, so that she becomes familiar with it, and gradually move it away to a more secluded area? Or would there be a worry of other creatures finding it? Just a thought.

  12. Thanks for the link Lynmiranda. I had a look and that may well be the cause as I am not the only affected with the missing thumbnails.

  13. Thank you Joe. I am always trying to improve the video quality. Sometimes I make things better, sometimes worse.

  14. Yes Pam. Things are a lot better than the same time yesterday.

  15. Nearly there Keith. Just the old thumbnails for the videos missing as they are on some other peoples.

  16. There is nothing like all singing all dancing technology for throwing a spanner in the works Adrian.

  17. Thank you Glo. I just wish they would use smaller spanners :) A tot of brandy went down a treat last night.

You are not the only one amazed at the plethora of plumage! The numbers suddenly shot up. They now have three feeders to themselves. You should see the bedlam when the Greenfinches and the Chaffinches join the throng.

I beat you to it with the idea of having Hoggy Lodge near the food. I moved it about a week ago and the little darling still walks straight past it. I think she must have a nesting area somewhere else already. Not to worry as it will remain there for possible future use.
