Lights, Camera, Action.

Today it is the turn of the House Sparrows. It is not only the Goldfinches which squabble for a place on the feeders. Lighting very variable so high ISO.

Even this Starling found squabbling Sparrows too much to bear!

Try the basement, there's space there.

I'm pleased to see that I still get visits from Tree Sparrows.

Not forgetting a pair of crossed Starlings. Maybe this should be on my Coat of Arms.

  2. Oh Wow John great photography!!! These shots are fabulous. Now I have some information just for you my friend. Yesterday you mentioned on my blog that you liked the middle shots..the bright pink flowers. These flowers are from a tree John. The tree is called a Silk tree and because your environment is very similar to ours it would be an extremely lovely addition to your yard. They grow large like any tree, but come the end of August the whole tree turns pink with these flowers attracting all kinds of bugs and birds. For you the birds would be a bonus and would lend itself well with your video sections and you will be the envy of all your neighbours!!! A lovely addition to anyone's garden especially the passionate gardener and animal lover. We have silk trees all over Victoria.

  4. Thank you Crista. Lovely to get the information. Looking round some UK sites they give conflicting information on the tenderness or otherwise of the Silk Tree. They seem to cost an average of £1 per inch in height. I found a couple on eBay so I have ordered one small one and have my eye on another a bit bigger. The leaves had me fooled as they look so much like the Mimosa which is an indoor plant here. I found out the Latin name is Albizzia julibrissin Rosea.

  6. Yes, the "Crossed Starlings" would be a great coat of arms! The two you captured have great, fresh plumage.

  10. Thanks Jan. Good job I have no family to spend my money for me so there is enough left over to feed the visitors.
