Fishy Photos

Well fish-eye photos really. A couple of photos of my pond taken with the iPhone fitted with a clip on fish-eye lens. Not the most brilliantly sharp lens combination I have ever used but worth an experiment or two. Must try it with the turntable one day and see how things look. More about the lens another day.

Even though it has lost most of its leaves my small standard rose is still producing bloom.

As you can gather I am out of new videos this Friday. I was hoping to get some of a visiting woodpecker. I had moved both peanut feeders to the Birdy Bistro near the kitchen when I spotted a woodpecker on the top rail. Unfortunately it spotted me and flew away. Then I moved a feeder back towards the end of the garden next to the camera which monitored the bird table so I am hoping it will capture some video when next it visits.

  1. I have owned a couple of sky lenses.... that shows my age!! The first was a cheapo. The second a mega bucks Zuico. Sharp as sharp right to the edges the edges were a bit dark though and centre filters at a couple of hundred pounds don't seem worth it to me.
Stick with this one I love the effect.

    1. It has its, limited, uses Adrian, especially in tight situations.

    1. Thank you Roy. I'll try anything, almost, once.

  3. What a bizarre view of the world! I wonder if fish really see like that, or is it just a human interpretation?

    1. It is John. I wonder if some of the Victorian experimenters actually tries the lens from a fish eye.

  4. Always interesting to hear what gadgets can be added to the iPhone, John. Thanks for sharing them :-) I wonder, if you were to recommend one - which would it be? I always thought an easy add on for digiscoping on the telescopes at wildlife reserves would be a great idea – I might get some nice Osprey pics that way :-)

Good luck with your plight in getting video of the Woodpecker in your garden. For the first time we’ve been seeing them here too. It must be a bad year for food sources in woodlands to bring them into gardens. I posted my first ever sighting back in October (a male) but since then a female has been making regular quick visits (quicker if she sees me slowly move to grab a camera). I’ve yet to capture photos of her but I did get a great video clip last Sunday with her at a fat cake feeder feeding with a Blue tit – a very lucky capture indeed. I think luck definitely needs to be with you getting GSW video/photos – they are so quick. Looking forward to seeing your lucky photos/video :-D

    1. Hi Shirl. Have just experimented and put up the result using iPhone with binoculars. Has possibilities for record shots when no other way is available.

My Woody is a very sporadic visitor so I may have to wait a while. You have great shots of your visitor.

  5. Another couple of round tuits ;) The results of the fish-eye lens are effective, especially with the pond as the centre ~ adds to the spherical look. Fancy having roses still blooming! Are they fragrant? I'd have a bouquet of them inside :)

    1. Unfortunately, Glo, like many modern hybrid roses they are very challenged in the bouquet department. It is so compact and the blooms on such short stems it is difficult to show them indoors though a single in a small container looks quite nice.

  6. A very different view of your pond John and really effective. It looks like the rose has been a real picture this year. I have never done well with roses and don't try to grow them any more, they used to always suffer badly with greenfly and I never really got the hang of pruning them correctly.

I hope you and Penny are having a good weekend and that the weather is better there than here, it has been miserable all week!

    1. It is a beautiful rose Jan. As long as the dead heads are removed it has copious numbers of blooms for months. I am not a rose lover but I do like that one.

Thank you for visiting. Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Any comment, or correction to any information or identification I get wrong, is most welcome. John
