Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November ...

Remember, remember, the fifth of November
The Gunpowder Treason and plot;
I see no reason why Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.

So the rhyme goes in remembrance of the failed plot by Guido (Guy) Fawkes and his fellow conspirators to blow up the houses of Parliament in 1605. Background information can be found on Wikiquote.

With the 5th being a Monday this year those who celebrate with bonfires and fireworks will mainly use the weekend nights. Bobby never bothered about the noise of invisible (to him) explosions and whistles nearby but I wasn't sure how Penny was going to react. She does have a nervous disposition. When we are out she is easily startled by any sudden noises, especially from behind her.

Fortunately last night's displays were not too close nor very loud. At first she kept coming to me for reassurance but in the end decided that she would cover up Freddy the Fox's ears and catch some shuteye herself.

I just hope that tonight runs as smoothly.

Remember folks - if you are having a bonfire then check for any hibernating Hedgehogs as to them it is a nice cosy hibernation spot under piles of wood and leaves.

  1. A lovely shot John. I hope the noise doesn't disturb her too much.
Jim used to hate the fireworks. Unfortunately it all seems to go on till the new year these days.

    1. Keith: Cleo, the one before Bobby used to hate fireworks. She would find a dark corner and just shiver with fear.

  2. The shot of Penny caused an 'awwwww..' moment here. I'm sure hugging the fox gave her comfort.

  3. Its an appalling waste of money John and often dangerous.
I wonder how many people were injured over this period of fireworks use.

    1. Haven't hear anything on the news this year Roy - media is too infatuated with the USA presidential kerfuffle to report much of what is happening in their own country.

  4. Cozy, or what? Looks like Penny hasn't a care in the world ~ but, under the circumstances Freddy Fox may need a name change to ... Guy .... Guy Fox! ;)

  5. Great picture.....My little dears love thunder and fireworks...I have to open the window for them to lean out to watch. Freezing it is but better than them sitting shivering with fear.

    1. Too true Adrian. A previous dog, Tramp, used to sit with me on the bay window seat and watch the fireworks and another I had wanted to get out and tell them off.

  6. What a brilliant photo John and so sweet :-) After years of Louis trembling with fear he seems to be oblivious this time. I think his hearing is not as good as it was, if it spares him that terror then I am thankful. I always think how awful it must be for the birds when everything starts exploding around them.
