Don't see these very often so it was nice to have a male Blackcap visit this morning:

  3. A lovely little garden visitor John. They visit me most winters. I have had male and female this year but have seen the male more often. They sure do like the sunflower hearts :-)

    1. I've seen them a few times Jan but visits are well spread out. I did see a pair some while ago.

  4. I suppose one of the only advantages to this chilly weather is the interesting bird species that are attracted to your garden. Hope that Blackcap sticks around for a bit longer for you.

We've got 3 Blackcaps visiting the garden at the moment (2 males, 1 female), and they particularly seem to like the fat cakes and suet pellets. I wonder if any of them will be left when the weather warms up a bit. I suspect not...

    1. That's true Joe. Food must be hard to find for many birds during this prolonged cold snap. Quite bold for a small bird as it took no notice of the squabbling Starlings this morning.

  5. Great sighting, John. It’s usually the fatcake or apples they have gone for with us although it’s been a while. From memory it’s been fatcake/coconuts they have taken from your garden in the past. I wonder if you will see it again tomorrow - I might guess you'll get it for a week or so if you do. Enjoy :-)

Thank you for visiting. Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Any comment, or correction to any information or identification I get wrong, is most welcome. John
