Friday at the Flicks - On the Bird Table

FATTHEF

Tuesday morning saw a visit by the local grey squirrel. It was trying all the feeders to find some food. In the end it disappeared from my sight in the direction of the bird tale. I switched on the camera and lo, there it was helping itself to sunflower seed hearts:

A little later a couple of collared doves also made it their breakfast table:

Later still one of the Magpies also helped itself to the seeds but I didn't manage to capture any video that time.

Mustn't forget the occasional night time visitor:

Have a great weekend observing the wildlife around you.

  4. Hello again, John don’t know if my previous comment went through – please delete this if it did. I was delighted to see another bird table blog especially as you have a camera in yours. Have you ever posted details on how you did this? Do you use motion capture software here?

What fun to see your visitors – I smiled at seeing the mouse as I was watching a very busy one feeding live (hedgehog feeding station) last night as I was editing my bird table post which has sat in draft for ages – a round tuit ticked ;-)

    1. Hello Shirley. I thought I had written about the new camera but apparently not.
Not the same supplier but this is the same camera:

      http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Infrared-Miniature-Colour-CCTV-Camera-With-Power-Adaptor-600-TVL-Security-Camera-/171543714481?pt=UK_Gadgets&hash=item27f0cd5ab1

The camera is so small it is ideal for fitting in tight places though not quite as wide angle as I would have liked. I was going to put it in the nest box but decided to try it on the table instead. The bird table has a sloping clear plastic roof with tape covering the top join to keep the camera dry. It is wired back to a digital video recorder along with three other outside cameras. It has been working since May and seems OK with generally damp atmosphere as long as it doesn't get wet. The DVR has motion detection built in. The output also feeds a USB EzCap unit so I can watch and record live on the MacBook.

Thank you for visiting. Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Any comment, or correction to any information or identification I get wrong, is most welcome. John
