Friday at the Flicks - Driving Hazards

These day I have the iPod Touch recording every car journey I make. If there are no incidents of note I delete the recording. Coming back from the Vets yesterday saw a couple of hazards. The first, second on the video clips, was a pair of horse riders. I would think I meet things like that one in four journeys. Horse riders are not a problem. Just needs a bit of patience and slow wide manoeuvring to pass them safely.

The second, first clip, is more of a problem. An arrogant, impatient HGV driver who pulled out of a side turning, marked with give way signs, right in front of me. I had to brake and pull over to the side of the road to avoid hitting him. Such idiots are a real danger to all other drivers and as far as I am concerned should be banned for life from ever driving any sort of vehicle.

More good news this morning - I had to go for a check up on my blood pressure. Local docs have been trying to tame this for over a decade. It looks as though the latest combination of drugs is working as today's reading was a mere 125/74, the best ever for me. I did ask whether the monitor was broken.  Go near a hospital and I have easily achieved 200+/90+ in the past.

    1. TWG I hope the bp stays reasonable. It has been too high for too long.

  2. I should know what the numbers mean I am 160/80 or was the other day. Is that good or bad? Manchester University folk wired me up whilst I was picking up a tow in heavy weather and although I felt calm my heart rate averaged 150 whatsits for over three hours and peaked at 220. I was talking and you couldn't tell from my voice. I know the heart is critical but am sure it need constant exercise. I've since heard that TV presenters hearts are going ten to the dozen.
The pub food delivery men are maniacs. Worse than white van man.

    1. Adrian I have to keep my bp low to slow down damage to the kidneys. True that the heart needs a bit of hard work from time to time. My resting heart rate is usually just below 60 bbp.

  3. Thanks! I always enjoy a scenic drive around your area. Now, however, I am wondering if your drivers are lots more polite than ours - or if they are just more used to your particular hazards???

    1. Mick. There are many inconsiderate drivers about. Often see reports of 'road rage' incidents. Those who live in the countryside are used to horses, tractors, combines, etc.

  4. I enjoy it when you take us driving. I always feel like we are on the wrong side of the road. It's strange isn't it how the brain reacts to things that don't seem quite right, even when I know it is, for you. We often encounter horses along our roads, but we are quite rural.
