Friday at the Flicks - Twilight Journey to the Vets

One way or another it has been a tiring week. Mainly keeping an eye on Penny day and night but the care is paying off.  Today was the first day she didn't cry out loudly when standing up after a long sleep.  That was what I found hardest to cope with - not knowing when the next cry would come.

Just as it was getting dark we were on our way the the vets for Mike to check on her progress.  I wanted to see how  the iPhone / iPod Touch app Hyperlapse would cope with poor lighting conditions. The app nags that the light level is too low but still allows a video to be made. Here is just the first part of the journey out of the village while the light was fading:

Mike, and I, were pleased with the way things are going, the stitches are holding and the join looks as though it is healing well so far. The original large sticking plaster was gradually lifting so it was removed and a new one fitted to keep things covered for a few days longer. Then we can 'look forward' to all the stitches being removed. Only one more day of disguising ten tablets a day so there is less hassle getting Penny to take them. What works with her is to coat them with strawberry jam and then they are lovely treats!

Penny says many thanks for all the good wishes. She is wagging her tail when I get her harness and lead and sets off at a cracking speed every walk. It will take her ages to repay the £289 vets fees (so far) out of her pocket money.......

    1. TWG. I have used cheese with other dogs but unfortunately Penny can't tolerate any milk related foods. Not tried peanut butter.

  2. Happy to hear that she is doing well - that looked like a very long wound!

    1. Wilma. They did shave a very large area, probably as they had to get under the skin. The wound is a lot smaller.

  3. I was so sorry to read about Penny's injury and am glad to know she is improving. You take great care of her, and I can understand your concern when she cries out. Good idea to get her teeth cleaned while she was under to save her from that ordeal later on. Maybe you could change her name to Lottery Win, because it will take a lot of Pennies to reimburse your coffers ;) Now I'm off to watch the video... I love these...travelling 'on the other side of the road'

  4. Very enjoyable video of the car trip at dusk. I was beginning to think I might have to ask for another one if you didn't put one up soon! They are my favorites.
Sorry that Penny hurt herself. I had to chuckle at the strawberry jam coating on the tablets.

    1. Mick. I will try anything rather than having to push medicine down her throat. She loves jam tarts so dipping the pills in the jam seemed the best way to go.

  6. Glad to hear things are going well for Penny John.

Love the idea of strawberry jam. I used to roll Jims tablets up in pieces of ham; the things we have to do lol

  7. Good to hear that Penny is on the mend John.
I guess you have been checking out the garden for anything sharp.
Dogs can soon get themselves into trouble how ever hard you try and prevent it.

    1. I have Roy, but can't find anything specific. The vet says she must have hit whatever it was at full speed with the extent of the injury under the skin. I have it in mind to fence off the wilder end of the garden as it's not her first scrape chasing things down there, but by far the worst - and most expensive!
