Thanks John. I used to put apple out but a chap told me apple seeds are not good for birds. The Blackbird hasn't been told. I'll have to look it up.
Adrian: As Blackbirds naturally eat windfall apples I assume they are OK as a food. They certainly seem to thrive on them here.
i just love these birds. their shape reminds me so much of our american robin and their coloration is just handsome. :)
