Autumn is not only the season of mists, and we have had lots of those recently, but also the season of mellow fruitfulness. One of the plants which has done well this year is the overgrown Elder in next door's garden. That was full of elderberries ..... until the Starlings came visiting:
After a couple of days all that was left were bare stalks.

DeleteWonderful photograph John. I always think starlings are much maligned birds - your photograph shows one at its best. Hope they enjoyed the elderberries - better than them going to waste. Just watch any washing on the line though - last week a blackbird gorged on some in our hedge and then paid me the compliment of pooing on my sheets on the line - bright purple splodges - which luckily washed out.
