A Video Title Test

Been having a play in HitFilm Express (recently updated to v9)
Edit: Starter pack purchased and installed (<£9)
Set up a new composite project at 1080p
Corn jpg imported
Clouds effect applied and coloured, maybe not the best choice of colour yet.
Cartoon effect applied to corn.

midmarsh..... text on a new layer
Heat distortion and emboss effects applied.
(The first time I've experimented using key frames to change effects with time)
Followed by Neon Glow, Diffuse and Light Flare effects.

Most of the effects have many different adjustments which can be made.
Lots of experimenting needed to see what each did.

Result saved as a video file.

Temporary title made in ArtText 3 on a green background.
Saved as a jpg.

Both imported in iMovie.
Blended using green screen.
Title text made to move using Ken Burns effect panning from a blank space to the text.
Saved as a video file (no sound)

With this set up it is easy to make a new title in ArtText 3 and replace the temporary one.
As yet I haven't managed to eliminate the small green dot.

  1. John, this is good. The green dot is lens flare I think. If you turn it up you should get a line of them at about 45°. If you don't want it turn it off.

    1. Adrian: Thanks. Found it. A few key frames to adjust the intensity of the flare from and to zero has done the job. For some reason it is set at a minimum of about 0.3 when first added. The dot was off centre with respect to the spikes. I moved the timing of the flare a bit so it gives a better impression it is dissolving the 'midmarsh' text. It seems to take ages to export a new version, probably the amount going on.

    2. John, I do stuff in Blender as the node editors and multilayer video editing is very flexible. Too flexible sometimes as I forget what is doing what.
I render out as a frame sequence in PNG as that gives the Alpha channel. I then import the sequence as you would doing a time lapse. A 250 frame render usually takes about three hours. I run it over night but can stop and start it anytime as it remembers which frame it has got to. To render the frame sequence only takes minutes then I compress in Handbrake and give it to YouTube to destroy though they are getting much better at maintaining quality.
