Lovely composition with the contrast of the heavy textured trunk and the glistening gossamer web, which appears wing-like.Glohttp://porcelainrose-glo.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626959970978663576.post-87315233275736172782009-10-13T07:32:34.374+01:002009-10-13T07:32:34.374+01:00Yes Keith. It seems to be a variation of the Chaffinch 'rain song'. I didn't connect the two as being variations on a theme.Midmarsh Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10980417659811194899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626959970978663576.post-13505865319317140022009-10-12T22:04:41.404+01:002009-10-12T22:04:41.404+01:00Hi Joe. It seems to be a purer, slower version of the Chaffinch 'rain call' I filmed a while ago. Not heard it that often but it definitely foxed me until I finally tracked down a male making a very similar sound in March 2008.FABhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16185823702988992159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626959970978663576.post-21401891767712196142009-10-12T19:40:25.221+01:002009-10-12T19:40:25.221+01:00Hi John,

I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure its a less common call of the Chaffinch.

I managed to find a website that had a sound clip of this. Link is below:

http://www.northamptonshirewildlife.co.uk/sound/chaff2a.wav

I could well be wrong, but hopefully this helps a bit. :)Joehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08064008068263914875noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626959970978663576.post-63964443694394636762009-10-12T14:50:40.840+01:002009-10-12T14:50:40.840+01:00Thanks for trying Jan. I suppose Starling is a possibility though, round here anyway, it is rare for them to be heard singly and to stick to one sound for very long.Midmarsh Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10980417659811194899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626959970978663576.post-5782693853838866632009-10-12T14:18:24.307+01:002009-10-12T14:18:24.307+01:00I love the cobweb, they really are amazing constru...I love the cobweb, they really are amazing constructions, not quite so keen when they appear in the house though ;)

I have trawled through every bird sound I can find, excluding water birds, to no avail. The silly thing is though I am sure I have heard it many times myself. My only suggestion is that perhaps it could be part of the good old Starling's large repertoire!ShySongbirdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08148381873578585910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8626959970978663576.post-30181917215328683872009-10-12T13:35:19.616+01:002009-10-12T13:35:19.616+01:00It is Pam.
