.... what the view of the world is like from horse back:
I hired a large van when I was moving house and really appreciated the better road view from a higher driving position. It's was only then I realised how restricted the view ahead is from a car.
Many years ago I thought about having riding lessons but bottled out.
Now I just think - it's a long way to fall and I don't bounce as well as I used to.
I had riding lessons as a teenager and you do get a good view. Only problem was I was that busy trying to control the horse and look out for traffic if riding on the roads that it was difficult to appreciate the scenery!! My daughter used to go to pony club but everything was based at the stables and arenas there - they never actually rode out!!! Too old now to get back on horse - dodgy knees and back!! I would imagine pony trekking would be fun though!
ReplyDeleteRR: With some of today's inconsiderate drivers it looks to be a bit of a chancy exercise to ride on roads. Yes, age does take its toll. I don't think my hip joints would be too enamoured at trying to get on a horse.
DeleteYes, I tried horse riding once John. Unfortunately the stirrups were too long, not a pleasant experience when I had to canter or trot. :)
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile John. Many years ago I was chairwoman of a committee and as such was asked to organise Horse Riding for Beginners (ladies of a certain age too). As I organised it I felt I had to participate. I was terrified. I was put on a lovely old grey who was so solid that apparently he carried the big drum at the local band marches. I was put on first and said horse decided he had

him and when he put his head down to eat I almost fell off. From that moment on he knew he was in charge. Never again.
I like horses and if I had the money would have a Clydesdale or two. Make a grand platform for photography.
ReplyDeleteYou could try a pony and trap.
