Determined Magpie

Three sides of the bird table have 2 inch metal mesh.
The fourth side has two wooden bars.

The idea was to keep out the larger birds and give the smaller ones a chance to feed.

  1. Not a bird I see this far north though they are heading this way.

  2. A valiant effort without reward. Your table seems to be working well.

    1. Wilma: It did manage to grab an occasional seed by reaching in.

  3. Great video of a very persistent Magpie! We see them in the garden but they are not too much of a problem with feeders/bird table. Round here it is Wood Pigeons that are a nuisance! Clever idea of yours on allowing small birds to feed.

    1. RR: When the Wood Pigeons kept parking themselves for ages on the bird table nothing else got a look in. The 2 inch mesh is large enough for Starlings and Blackbirds to find a way in as well as all the small birds.
