Imagine my surprise when checking through the trail camera captures and seeing some clips of a Muntjac deer ambling round the garden. Looks as though it spent a good half hour there. Then it was followed shortly after by a visiting fox. Misty video as the lens fogs when the temperature approaches 0C.
One thing is for sure - a fenced garden is no barrier to curious and determined wildlife.

A Chance Encounter
Went looking for dragonflies down the lane and had a brief encounter with

a pair of Muntjac deer. Even with 150mm zoom they were hard to see.
Closer crop of the above photo

While watching them I only noticed one. When I saw the photo I could see there were a pair.
We were far enough away not to scare them and the wind was blowing towards us.
They slowly ambled away and disappeared from view.
Needless to say, Penny was just as interested as I was.

Another Muntjac Deer Sighting
Taking our usual mid afternoon route it was a nice surprise when I glanced down a recently cleared public footpath and spotted a Muntjac deer. It was well down the path and stopped a while watching us.
What the camera could see even on full zoom:

Fortunately one shot was well enough in focus to be able to crop for a better view:

As is usual in such situations all that could be see most of the time was a back end:

We continued with our walk and I had another look on the return journey. The deer was still there so I decided to try creeping closer for a better shot. Unfortunately a dog in a nearby garden chose that moment to bark and the deer disappeared in a flash.

A Lovely Surprise Encounter
Woke up early so it was just 6 a.m. as we went out for our first walk of the day. Just got to the front gate when you could have knocked me down with a feather. There, cautiously coming through the hedge opposite, was a Muntjac Deer. Fortunately I had the Nikon in my pocket so I was able to grab a couple of hurried photos before it disappeared:

In fact there wasn't just the one but two which had been taking advantage of the vegetation in the large, well kept gardens opposite:

I was surprised just how small they were. Apart from their bulky shape they looked to be much the same size as Penny who was very patiently watching them through the front gate.
That really made my day as my next door neighbour has seen one in his back garden at least twice this year. My garden is well fenced in with high gates so I had given up any idea of seeing one myself.
