Another Lazy Day

No Round Tuits today. Sun umbrella, canvas chair, Sony Walkman and camera in lap. Several insects actually got me up and about from time to time. There were a couple of Blue Tailed Damselflies flitting round the pond for hours occasionally taking a rest.

A rare 'in flight' capture:

Who loves you baby?

High up in the Leylandii a Pigeon kept opening any eye to see what I was up to.

Ive Got My Beady Eye On You

Later it decided to indulge in a bit of nest building, as if there were not enough of the things about as it is!

Nest Building Time Again

Spurred on by the Sunshine the Sunflower had opened quite a lot since yesterday and was visited by a Common Carder Bumblebee which spent quite a while testing each section for nectar....

... accompanied by the inevitable Hover Fly.

You know who was making the most of the warm day trying to get a sun tan on his back.

Is My Back Brown Yet

There are still lots of bedraggled looking Large White Butterflies flapping about looking for the right plant on which to deposit an egg or two. This one was caught 'in flight'.

One decided it needed to know the time and spent a while examining the garden clock.

Finally a male Chaffinch was tucking in to Sunflower hearts as though there would be a famine tomorrow.

The tailless blackbird is becoming a nuisance. Yesterday I had to shoo it out of the greenhouse and today it decided to investigate the shed and took some getting out.

  1. What a wonderful lazy day. The damsel fly series is terrific, especially that last shot.

  2. Goodmorning John!!! Love your post such variety....so nice I loved your Sunflower shots :) It's finally raining here today!! Yay I might just go for a misty walk and smell that fresh air. I never thought I would be so happy to see the rain.

  3. I like the look of that white creature snoozing on the grass. I suspect he's rather rare.

These are great shots from your garden afternoon.

  6. Sounds like a very nice day indeed - sunshine, time to relax, and all those beautiful things around you to photograph!

  7. Cracking shots John. A perfect day. I love days like that.
The 'flight' damsel is a really good sharp shot.

  8. What fantastic photos! Your first photo of the damselfly on the 'landing pad' surrounded by the textures of the pond is so artistically beautiful. Great to capture in flight as well. The one with the face is quite comical, isn't it? LOL

The pigeon does seem to be keeping an eye out, and why not ~ probably fascinated with the automated greenhouse door, large garden clock, cameras in nest boxes and more wired in for night watching...its nest would be a perfect spot for a bird's eye view!

Your sunflowers certainly reflect the beauty and brightness of the day. A lovely post, and nice to know you had great day.

  9. Hi Wilma. Thank you. I was nice to have a sunny day in the garden. A rare event these days as it has been so wet.

  10. Thank you Crista. Nice you got some rain at last. It usually helps to freshen the air. I had to put the air conditioning on for a while yesterday as it gets so hot indoors. My living room catches the Sun for most of the day and being a 50s building it has very large windows.

  13. Yes Mick - a thoroughly enjoyable day as long as I kept my eyes away from all the Round Tuits piling up. :)

  14. Thank you kindly Keith. I spent ages trying to get a shot of the damsel in flight and then it took off just as I was snapping it on the lily pad.

  15. Thank you so much Glo. It really made a change to be able to sit outside in the dry. It is amazing just how much wildlife there is in a garden. Just as well for this couch potato. The eyes on the damsel are so far apart if does look very comical and not so terrifying as the close ups of dragons. I adore Sunflowers - just like a piece of the Sun in my own garden.

  16. A lovely lazy day with no Round Tuits! I love the damsels, that is the beauty of having your own pond. The Wood pigeon photos made me smile, they always manage to look so comical :) I also loved the Chaffinch and particularly the pic of dear Bobby enjoying his own lazy day in the sun.

  17. Love the Damselfly shots. I'm very partial to dragonflies, and these remind me a lot of these. These ones a very pretty.
Also partial to Sunflowers too! :) Those shots are wonderful!

  18. Hi Jan. Bobby has a lazy day every day, a real couch potato but he does love the sun.

The pond does help to attract different life. The other day I fleetingly spotted a damsel I hadn't seen before. It seem to be dark grey or brown - may have been a female but which I have no idea.

  19. I agree Pam. Some of the dragons are really spectacular. Unfortunately they haven't visited my garden while I've been watching so far this year. The damsels are so much smaller and more fragile looking.

I don't think you can beat the cheerful look of a sunflower. I always try to grow a few and this year the birds did it for me.

  20. What great and sharp pictures John - especially the damselflies! From your description, I can feel the sun, hear the music and enjoy your wildlife. And even have a bit of a doze, just like "you know who" :D

  21. Thank you Tricia. Good bright sunlight does help to give sharp pictures. I hope you don't doze for as long as You Know Who does :)

  22. Dozing for as long, John? Probably not :D
