Don't Shut That Door

Only a little scattering of snow overnight but it's making up for it now as bursts of heavy snow move in from the North Sea. Every so often Bobby took a tour of the garden and had a quick burst of energy dashing through the snow. After a while he decided enough is enough and came hurtling back indoors. It's a good job I am ready to open the door as he would never be able to stop on the packed snow and ice outside the back door.

Don't Shut That Door

Yesterday Lincolnshire ground to a halt as the drifting deep fine snow on the fields covered the roads as soon as the snow ploughs cleared them. Even the postal delivery didn't materialise.

Weather condition are so unusually bad that the Lincoln Christmas Market has been cancelled. The first time that has happened since it started about 28 years ago. Normally 100,000 people visit the Christmas Market and the authorities decided that road conditions were so bad, with no sign of immediate improvement, that it was too dangerous for all concerned.

Temperatures have hovered around 0C which allows some snow on the shed roof to start melting but the resulting drips of water are turning to icicles.

Icicle

The first time I have seen any icicles for quite a few years and that one, taken yesterday, is steadily growing..

  1. Fire up the patio heater...........bit of global warming never hurt anyone. Hopefully it will soon end or the devastation on the wee brown birds will be immense.

  2. Hello Adrian. The snow is supposed to finish after midnight but then clear skies means even colder temperatures for a while.

Looks like you've had a lot more snow than me John.

  4. Wow! Not pleasant, I imagine. I really do prefer the tropics :-) I hope you have enough supplies in the house to last until it all starts to melt. Keep safe!!

  5. Lovely picture of Bobby with ears aloft! I was just saying this afternoon - it is so much easier to see Buddy in the snow because he is black! Bobby must disappear completely - so well camouflaged!

  8. What a lovely photo of Bobby! My goodness, he must have thought he was a puppy again racing around like that, I expect his poor old tootsies were cold and he couldn't wait to get back indoors :)

We still haven't had much snow but our temperatures have been colder than yours.

  9. Hello Keith. I love the way his ears flap up and down when he runs.

  10. You are right Mick - not nice. Yes, plenty of supplies, lots of tinned and frozen stuff.

  11. Not quite Matron. His darkish spots help to spot him and he wears a black coat in daylight and one with reflective strips in the dark.

  12. Hello Emma. Don;t be so greedy - share your snow with someone else lol. Yes. The quicker it goes the better though I think it will take a while as the temperature seems to be dropping rapidly at the moment.

  13. Yes Jan, he plays just like a puppy in the snow for a short while then hurtles indoors and doesn't stop until he reaches his chair.

Ah. Just been out to the garage to wrap old towels round the taps as the temperature is approaching -3C (The previous owners of the property put hot and cold running water in the attached garage which is great for most of the year. I lagged the pipes but have to remember the taps when it starts to freeze.)
