Friday at the Flicks - Great Tit, Stock Dove

The Great Tit continues to use the nest box every night, Yesterday morning I managed to get a bit of video from outside the box as it left.

It was quite a surprise yesterday to see a very nervous Stock Dove in the garden. It spent a lot of its time being chased around by the Wood Pigeons but did manage to find a few peaceful moments to eat some of the scattered seed.

Have a great weekend observing the wildlife around you.

  1. Great to see the Great Tit still taking advantage of somewhere warm and safe to spend the night John.

  2. Great videos of the ins and outs of the nestbox. Spring is on its way so it will be fun to see what develops. I don't know anything about the Stock Dove so I enjoyed seeing it in action.

  3. Interesting to see that tit looking around inside the box, inspecting the walls. I could almost imagine that it was checking it out, thinking if it would do for a next next year. Do you know if it was a male or a female?

  5. Thank you Glo. I hope she decides to nest in there. The Stock Dove is a much rarer visitor to the garden. The neck feathers have a beautiful metallic shine when the sunlight catches them.

  6. Hello Matron. I have assumed the Great Tit is a female - mainly by the way it does a nest box shuffle from time to time. With Blue Tits I have only seen this from the females.

  7. It looks as if we will be treated to a clutch of eggs in a month or so.......I can't wait.

  8. I hope so Adrian. It looked as though she was trying to encourage the male to visit yesterday.
