I had to laugh today as Pa Great Tit attempted to feed an insect to his babies and Ma Great Tit was determined that she knew which baby needed feeding next.
How the babies are growing. Only five days ago they were the same size as the two eggs which haven't hatched. I wonder when they will open their eyes.
That was fun John. They certainly are growing quickly!
ReplyDeleteHi John, your Ma GT clip was wonderful. She is the typical Mum, fussing over her little brood. I am sure you are glued to the cam output all the time as it is really addictive.
ReplyDeleteFrom what you write, it sounds like your brat pack is making quite a noise in the early mornings. The exact same thing is happening here. They wake us up but as we do not mind the starlings, it is OK but unfortunately, a number of our neighbours have come to the door to complain. Looks like we will be camping out in the garden in the early mornings for the next while to try to minimise the racket (I am writing this on a tea-break during this morning's watch). We hope this phase will be over very soon.
Pleased you enjoyed it Jan. They really are growing at an amazing rate. I can now see markings on their little wings.
ReplyDeleteHello Twosie. They seem to be a great pair of parents and at the speed the babies are growing they are well fed.
ReplyDeleteThe brat pack are so noisy. The problem is that even when all the seed has gone the youngsters stay and the parents bring in food for them. I see a lot of bread being brought from other gardens.
Any complaining neighbours would get short shrift here as would I point out to them how noisy their offspring are on nice calm sunny days and late evenings ;)
Like you I am hoping it won't be too long before the youngsters start exploring and looking for their own food.
A pair of great tits took over my blue tit nesting box this year in France and we laughed to see them squeezing in and out of the small hole. Both birds worked so hard bringing in food and I got a couple of nice pictures.Three weeks ago we presume the babies fledged. Today I opened the box to clean it and there was no nest, feathers, droppings or signs the pair had been in there.
ReplyDeleteAny explanation anyone can offer?
