Not long ago I was bemoaning the lack of visits by Long Tailed Tits so it was a really pleasant surprise when a small group suddenly appeared at the feeders. For once the camera was already set up:
I think this is the first time I have seen them mix with other birds and the Blue Tits seemed to keep staring at them as if they couldn't work out what these Humpty Dumpties with long tails were:
Even the House Sparrow seemed to be saying, 'Who invited you to tea?":
As usual they only stayed a short while before moving on as a group.
I hope they don't leave it so long before their next visit.
so very cute!
ReplyDeleteTWG: One of my favourite visitors. I have never seem them squabble.
DeleteWe get them regularly John. They seem to take our feeders in on their journey up the field. They descent on our fat balls and cover them so that their tails make a wonderful pattern. But you are right - two or three minutes and they are off again to forage further up the hedge. Now they have been once you might find they include you regularly on their feeding rounds.
ReplyDeleteWeaver: The could be around more often than I notice. I have to be in the kitchen at the right time to catch their fleeting visits. You will have to get a photo of them on a fat ball - sounds wonderful.
DeleteI only ever seem to see them in winter.
ReplyDeleteAdrian: Not sure which seasons I see them, probably not in the Summer as they are in the hedgerows some distance away from home.
DeleteWonder if they were a family group, or one of the small flocks starting to form for the colder months?
ReplyDeleteSimon - it could well have been a family group as there were just a few.
