Darting About

Rarely seen any dragonflies stay still this year. In fact I've only seen a few in flight so I was pleased to see this one settle in my garden long enough to photo.

Common Darter Dragonfly DSCN8967

It looks to me to be a female Common Darter.

  1. Yes I think it is. Always adds to a day seeing a Dragonfly.

  2. Apparently many years ago photographers used hair spray on insects and butterflies etc. to keep them still. 40 odd years ago Amateur Photographer published an award winning photograph of a red squirrel, only to find out later that it was a stuffed one.

    1. Dave: Ha, ha. I can just see me dashing round the village, camera in one hand, can of hair spray in the other.
