Tiny Planet Movies

I dusted off my old iPad 2 the other day. Not been used for many a Moon so the battery was flat. Pleasant surprise - it charged just fine and is holding its charge. I was going through the apps on it and deleting some which no longer worked or I had no use for when I found one I had completely forgotten about. 'Living Planet'. I searched the app store in case there was an update but it doesn't seem to be available any more. Fortunately the original app works just fine and I found I had a copy of it on a newer iPad.
Living Planet is, as far as I can gather, the only app which can take a 30 second movie and turn it into a Tiny Planet or Wormhole video. I just had to have a play with it. First with a cloud timelapse video:

A screenshot from the movie:

Next a screenshot from a harvesting video:

I was tickled by the way the earth seems to be made to revolve under the combine.

    1. Wilma: Thank You. I nearly titled that one Harvesting the World! I will look out for some more suitable short video clips. Not all give pleasing results and it gets more complicated as I have to keep transferring between iOS and MacOS..

  2. These are really good fun. I'll have to see if resolve can do them. Thanks for reminding me of tiny planets it's years since I made one.

    1. Just had a look through the nodes in Resolve and they seem to have everything required. Mirror, transform, a bit of a mask to blur the join and square to polar so I'll have a go. Thanks again.

    2. Adrian: So far I have only seen reports of PSP being able to do this. Hope Resolves come up trumps. That would encourage me to install the Ubuntu version. The main disadvantage of the old iPad app is its limit of 30 seconds and 1080 x 1080 max resolution on the finished video.

    3. Using my video camera I will get Half of 1920 so 960 then I suspect it will squash the 1080 dimension as I have to square the image up. It will be 300px/inch so should be fine I'll take some in the morning and give it a whirl.

  3. That's amazing, John. It reminds me of a Kaleidoscope for some reason, going round and round like that.
