Hedgehog Visitor

Well, it's been nearly a month since I had anything new to report on the garden wildlife front. The Bluetits have been visiting the camera nestbox several times every day. Always the same routine. One enters and waits. The second one arrives and the first immediately leaves.

During the spell of milder weather there were no visits by the Pied Wagtail but it has returned now the frosts have returned.

The hedgehog I mentioned some time ago has been visiting the garden every night. Yesterday I got round to fixing up the camera in the Hedgehog House.

It seems to be thriving well and appears non the worse for being out of hibernation so early.

  1. That hedgehog does indeed look healthy, have you popped some food in there too, or is it simply exploring the box?

  2. Yes. I have been feeding it since I first noticed it visiting.

  3. Good news about the Blue Tits and the hedgehog looks healthy :) I think sometimes they wake for short periods if a mild spell and then will re-hibernate if it goes colder again.

    1. RR: I had expected the Hedgehog to go back into hibernation but this one kept visiting even on the coldest nights. I wonder whether it was disturbed from its original sleeping place.

That hedgehog is so sweet looking, altho, if I saw one in person, I would probably be scared! Cute on film, tho! :)

    1. Elled: Our Hedgehogs are very timid, when it comes to any non hedgehog anyway, and would curl up in a ball or scamper away.

    1. Simon: It was around even when we had that bit of snow. By the amount it is eating it should be in fine breeding condition by the Spring.e
