Yesterday Penny made another visit to see her vet to have her blood pressure checked. That failed as she wouldn't calm down enough to get an accurate reading. Try again next week with a longer visit to give her time to settle. I wasn't in the best of moods when we left but that soon changed when I spotted one of the brightest rainbows I have ever seen. Much brighter than the iPod captured it but still looks pretty good. On the second clip you might just be able to make out a second rainbow to the right of the main one.

Vibrance
A couple of recent photos where I have increased the vibrance to bring out the colours.
A rainbow:

Bumble bee on red Sunflower:

On a different subject - the latest proof that the world is gripped by total madness.
Found on social media:
“Full stop is 'intimidating' to young people who interpret it as a sign of anger, linguists say.”
As one person commented:
For goodness sake... no one show them an exclamation mark!

Colourful Walkies
After sharing a meal of lamb chops, peas, boiled spuds, green beans and carrots we took advantage of the eased rules for exercising outdoors. First time in what feels like years we went for an after tea walk down the lane. To finish off a welcome, though definitely chilly, walkabout there was a beautiful rainbow.

Lovely scene to end the day.

Winter Pays a Brief Visit + Rainbow
Yesterday morning came as a bit of a shock. When we went walkabout the temperature had dropped to 1.9C but felt colder in the chill of a Northerly breeze and light rain. By early afternoon things looked even colder when a short sharp hail shower arrived. Though this turned to rain some of the hail was still visible over an hour later.

More cheerful this morning.
Sun breaking though and a very clear rainbow to greet me.

Multicoloured Breakfast Time
I was up and about earlier than usual yesterday. The idea was to get the early morning walkies over before any rain arrived. I was tucking in to my individual pot of peach chunks in juice and watching the Sunrise through the kitchen window. Just as some of the clouds were starting to take on an orange hue I noticed the rainbow.

It seems many months, if not a couple of years, since I last saw one and I don't think I have ever seen one so early in the day. A cheerful start to what was forecast to be a wet and windy day. Fortunately it wasn't very wet here. Just the occasional light shower but we had plenty of gusty wind.

A Different Rainbow and an Orchid
As we returning from our early morning perambulation I spotted a rainbow. Well, part of what we normally think of as a rainbow as it was only showing on the edge of a cloud. Surprisingly, to me anyway, the Sun wasn't far away from the rainbow, a little lower in the sky and about 20 to 30 degrees to the left. At first the rainbow appeared to be straight, which was what had caught my attention.

As the Sun continued to rise and the cloud moved the rainbow followed the outline of the cloud.

Also to be seen were the trails left behind by all the early morning flights from the various airports in the midlands.

Searching through some sites this may well have been what is know as a fiery rainbow which is seen when the sun's rays pass through ice crystals in high cloud.
This is one of the orchids I treated myself to last Sunday. I have always wanted a Cattleya but in the past they have been so very expensive. Also they tend to be more tender that the varieties I usually go for but this time I couldn't resist the temptation of those beautiful three inch flowers.

I will just have to take care to find it a suitable place next winter.

Rainbows and Rain
Early yesterday morning I could see a faint rainbow from the kitchen window. It must be about a year since I last saw one. Out of curiosity I took a few photographs, some with the Canon and a couple with the mobile phone. The first is with the Canon and the second with the phone:

As I said the rainbow was very faint and the Sun was just above the horizon so I was interested to see how both cameras would cope. The lens on the Canon was set to its widest at 70mm and the phone has a fixed 5.2 mm. They both coped pretty well.
While I see a couple of Coal Tits visit on and off all day snatching the black Sunflower seeds it was a rarity to see one visit the bird bath.

This morning it was raining gently when we started our morning walk but the rain gradually increased and by the time we got back it was a deluge. That didn't stop the birds coming for their breakfasts. In fact there were more than usual, the first being a couple of Goldfinches soon to be joined by more plus Sparrows, Starlings, Greenfinches, Chaffinches and a Robin.

This is the first time I have seen so many Goldfinches together since the outbreak of Finch disease earlier in the year. It was so dark with the thick grey rain clouds I had to set the Canon to its maximum 3200 ISO but with a little help from Paint Shop Pro I was fairly pleased with the result.
