Friday at the Flicks - Those LTTs Again

During the week I made another log feeder for the peanut butter. Also I now have two varieties of the butter. A few days ago Shirl (of Shirl's Gardenwatch ) mentioned the variety she uses so I had a look on the net to see if it was available mail order. Not only did I find several places where it could be ordered but it was better value, money wise, than that sold specifically for birds.

On the left is the 330g jar of peanut butter for birds at £2.99

On the right a 1Kg tub of pure unsalted peanut butter at £5.49

The new peanut butter feeder. Made with smalller holes, half inch diameter instead of one inch. It is taking a while for the birds to get used to the new peanut butter but, like most new foods, it is slowly catching on.

A quick capture of a few Long Tailed Tits sampling the new stuff.

Have a great weekend observing the wildlife around you.

    1. Hello Jan. It is taking a while for the birds to get used to the new peanut butter, but at least that makes it last longer ;)

    1. Adrian, yes, the Starlings are always the first to try out anything edible.

  4. We stopped putting stuff on a bird table because all our dogs would scavenge around it eating all sorts of stuff and getting upset tummies!

    1. Matron: Penny always has a good snuffle under the feeders. Fortunately there is little for her and she seems to have an iron constitution.

  6. A new take on the 'Yule Log' :) Great that you were able to find an alternate food source and that it is more economical as well..always a plus. The birds seem to enjoy the new attraction at the Birdy Bistro :) Merry Christmas John, Penny and all the birds and critters, too!

    1. Glo: Maybe I should put a candle on top of a log on Christmas Day.

  7. Hello again, John - delighted to see you sourcing my peanut butter. It’s good to be able to share stuff. I did suspect it would be cheaper for you and the birds would take a little time to get used to it. After seeing your previous photos of your peanut butter log I knew mine was a tad different in colour and texture too.

Nice footage of the LTT’s. I keep seeing a couple visit my fat cake but always when light levels are low, most often at the end of the day where their ball and stick silhouettes are distinctive on my feeder branches. No point in getting my cameras out. Maybe one day – I’ll enjoy your images for now :-)

    1. Hello Shirl. I have seen the LTTs occasionally drop in near dusk. I guess they are on their way back to wherever they roost at that time.

Thank you for visiting. Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Any comment, or correction to any information or identification I get wrong, is most welcome. John
