Soon after I had taken the stills yesterday I managed to a short piece of video of the fledgeling being fed. Once I had chased the Starlings away this morning the Coal Tits were back within a few seconds so I managed a bit more footage. As well as being fed by the parent the youngster also spent time hunting amongst the branches and the final clip appears to show that it had managed to find some food for itself.
While all the larger birds flew away when I took the camcorder outside to get some clearer video the tiny Coal Tits took no notice of me and carried on with the task in hand.
John, this is a smashing clip.
ReplyDeleteGreat video.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely brilliant John! I love it :-)
ReplyDeleteThe other day I thought I saw a juv Great Tit making quite a plee for attention/food on a tree branch.. went indoors for my camera... and it was gone. Now I'm wondering if it was a juv Coal Tit.
Wishing you a good week. All six chicks in our nestbox are growing well... what a difference it has made having two parents feeding. The male is doing a fantastic job... he must be wrecked :-)
I enjoyed the little video clip! Your Coal Tits strongly resemble our Black-capped Chickadees. It's so interesting to see all the different birds you have, and how they are similar to ours, sometimes the name, sometimes the bird. ~karen
ReplyDeleteThank you Adrian.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie.
ReplyDeleteThank you Shirl. I always knew when the Coal Tit adults arrived as they constantly emitted high pitched 'peeps' which I assume were to let the fledgelings know where they were.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your next batch of Blue Tit family videos.
Hello Karen. Pleased you enjoyed the little video. Yes there are sometimes similarities between our birds. I have noticed that from time to time.
