Newts

Now the Sun has been shining and the water in my garden pond is warming up the Smooth Newts are to be seen cruising through the water.

Common Newt

Common Newts

I have seen up to four in view at the same time so I know a decent number of them survived last winter's harsh conditions. I also managed to take some video which will be available tomorrow.

  1. Great captures! Did you use a different camera for each photo?

I haven't seen a Newt for years, I don't have a pond but always look in likely places when I am out but to no avail.

  2. Thank you Jan. No the same camera (350D with the 70-200mm). I think it's just the different backgrounds and different angles of view. Mine are most active around midday.

  5. How wonderful to have newts! I didn't even have frogs/tadpoles this year. :-( I think our super-cold winter may have been too much for them to survive.

  6. Hello Wilma. I think they first found my pond several years ago when the orchard behind me turned in to a building site.
