Macro on Monday - Guess What

Here is last week's mystery object along side a full view.

rectangle_New-Out99999   Garden Snail

Adrian was fast off the mark saying it was a lipped snail. I think it was brown lipped and anyway all I wanted was 'snail' So a gold star to Adrian and an honourable mention to Glo and Keith.

This won't be quite so easy. It was taken through the microscope at about 100x magnification.

No prizes - just for fun.

Clue. You would be wrong to expect the other end to be painfully sharp.

  1. Hmmmm, not sure on this one.
I thought at first, maybe a leg of an insect? But the colour......
    got me stumped I think.

  2. I'll go for a moths antenna.

  3. I looked at this earlier on and decided to come back to it in the hope I might get a brain wave...no such luck! So far I am completely stumped but will come back if I have any bright ideas. It is fun though, I do like a good puzzle :)

  4. I like Keith's and Adrian's ideas; it must be an insect tappendage of some sort - leg, antena, pedipalp, etc. But what do you mean by "other end" - neither end is visible!

I do like these Macro on Monday contests, John. Your photography is wonderful. Please do keep on with them.

  5. I would guess from the clue that it is an antenna, possibly from a hoverfly?

  6. I think it is a leg from that bright red and black bug you showed on a previous post, although after reading your hint, it may be its antennae.

  7. Hmm well I'm fairly sure it is an insect leg, as for the colour... a ladybird?

  8. After mulling it over for some time I came up with the very hesitant suggestion of a Ladybird's leg only to find that Matron had pipped me to the post! I'm still far from sure though :)
