Friday at the Flicks - Apples, Pheasant

No sign of any Winter visiting thrushes here as yet but the local Starlings and Blackbirds are tucking in to the apples I put out. The apples are fixed on a bolt so they stay in place:

The cock Pheasant seems to have become a regular morning visitor. As I thought, Penny doesn't exactly welcome large birds to her garden but, ungainly as it is, the Pheasant can take off faster than Penny can reach it. Here it is cleaning up the seed scattered from the feeders by the Starlings:

Have a great weekend observing the wildlife around you.

  1. Good to see the starlings tolerating blackbirds.
The racket pheasants make on take off it's a wonder you haven't had an accident. They frighten me witless.

    1. It certainly is a racket Adrian, wings and voice - make me jump when they break cover on our walks, usually straight overhead.

  2. They were certainly tucking in to the apples John. A clever way of fixing them!

The Pheasant is very handsome. I'm glad it is able to outwit Penny :-)

Have a happy weekend John, keep on looking for those Winter Thrushes and Waxwings. It is a 'Waxwing Winter' and I heard they are getting closer to my area which is unusually early in the Winter.

    1. The fixing idea was based on reading how Shirl cut off the tops and spiked them on thin branches.

No Winter thrushes yet but it is a bit early for this area, maybe when we get the first snow.

  3. Nice to see the birds enjoying your kindness ~ and the pheasant seems to be enjoying your garden as well. Nice to hear a little noise from Penny in the first video :)

  5. Great to see you are getting takers for the apples. As you said to Jan I also spike them on branches and it works a treat. However, I have to admit to enjoying seeing the cored apples spin around on the top of my garden obelisks. It's fun to watch the birds at this ;-)

    1. Shirl. I don't think I would have thought about fixing the apples if I hadn't seen you mention it. It's great to get different ideas by reading other blogs.
