Who Put That There?

Fireworks were much nearer and louder last night. Initially Penny was a bit restless, mainly because she could see the flashes on the monitor. Then she moved to a darker spot and went to sleep so all in all the evening passed well. There have been nowhere near as many noisy rockets this year - another sign that money is tight for many families.

About 9 p.m. she decided it was time to go in the back garden and water the grass. I think we were both surprised to see the remains of a rocket had landed, burying itself nose first in the soggy ground. Usually the morning following a nearby firework display I manage to collect a few of these. They make excellent garden canes for tall flowers.

I'm sure that wasn't there at tea time!

The flash from the camera shows how well her reflective collar works. That is often the only piece of her I can see when she wanders round the garden at night.

  1. At least it didn't spear a hedgehog! The reflective collar works perfectly and a great idea.

    1. This time of year for early morning walks we both have reflective clothing. Village lighting isn't brilliant and many drivers ignore the speed limit.

  2. Good to see she's settled to life in Lincolnshire.

    1. She has settled well Adrian. It took a few days but she has got used to the 'cannons' used by the farmers to scare the pigeons though I wish they would go back to shooting them.

    2. They are shooting them here on Sunday morning which saves the gas canons going off every twenty minutes. Keeps the magpies down as well.

    1. Thank you Jan. She even kept investigating the hole after I had removed it.

    1. If it was still hot Keith I'm glad it didn't land on the shed roof.

  5. oh, dear! a little close for comfort.

i sometimes have to keep a light on during thunderstorms to keep one of my dogs from freaking out about the lightning. it helps a bit, anyway.

    1. When my last dog lost most of his eyesight I used to leave a light on all night for him.

  6. My pups used to wear a battery operated red, flashing, golf ball sized orb that hung from there collars when they went out at night for walkies. We called them "blinky balls". Pennys collar is much more cost effective/useful in the long run, and much prettier too. :)

    1. ImaBurdie: I have a collar with flashing LEDs but never got round to using it. I have no idea how long the batteries would last. They show well as I see another dog wearing one some mornings.
