When I see a bird sitting on the highest place it can find to observe the world it always reminds me of the days when as youngsters we played King of the Castle where we would battle to hold on to the highest place around.
European Starling (Stumus vulgaris)
At the moment there are not so many as in previous years and they are visiting less frequently. They are so quarrelsome, greedy and wasteful in the way they scatter food all over the place the smaller birds are able to get their fair share of the seed I put out.
Beautiful shots....what is that blue in the sky?
ReplyDeleteYou have to know the right magic spell to make it appear Adrian. ;>)
DeleteHello again John, great images and an accurate blog title. Interestingly enough, I’ve seen less visits up my way too - until yesterday when I put out some gluten free food on a ground feeder (as you might expect there is a story behind this). They returned for more today – they never forget food sources when they find it do they? I hate wasteful food being scattered too – I hate the seeds germinating in my borders and paths. But most of all, I hate that the smaller birds lose out .
ReplyDeleteHello Shirl. I tend to order 'no mess' bird seed, most of which doesn't germinate. The worst here is the niger seed - thousands of little sprouts!
DeleteGreat pictures. They look a little cranky, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie. They do squabble a lot.
DeleteLovely photos John. They always remind me of exactly the same thing :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jan. Makes a difference when there is no glass in the way.
