Ah! All has become clear, my husband says it is the imprint of a horse's shoe. As I had assumed it was in your garden that conjures up even more wonderfully mad images in my mind :-)
That looks to me like a horse shoe imprint :) I find it fun to see what/who has left tracks after a snowfall. Fortunately we haven't had much snow recently.
