I guess the answer is yes looking at these screenshots taken just before 8 a.m. this morning.
These are real time representations of the aircraft in the sky.

A closer view of UK and near Europe:
I find Flightradar24 to be the best of the flight tracking sites I have looked at.
It can be found HERE.
You can zoom in and out.
The aircraft icons move in real time.
Clicking on any shows the path it has taken and usually some information about the aircraft.
The site is ad supported.
If you are mad keen then Flightradar24 has apps on Goole Play and Apple app stores.
Whenever I track a flight I'm amazed at the volume of air traffic and take my hat off to Air Traffic Controllers and the technology used to keep everyone safe.
ReplyDeleteDave: It's no wonder it causes such chaos when there is a technical hiccup.
DeleteThanks John, yet another interesting thing to waste my time on........Little wonder I'm so busy.
ReplyDeleteAdrian: Someone has to keep you off the streets and out of mischief ;)
DeleteWOW!!!! I never really thought about just how many planes are up there art any one time. It certainly must take a LOT of focus and concentration to work as Air Traffic Control. *note to self* cross it off my possible jobs list as I do get distracted a wee bit too much....I can just see me getting distracted by a passing Barn or Short-eared Owl or murmuration of starlings at Prestwick Carr which is right next door to Newcastle Airport!
ReplyDeleteGillykat. Many thanks for visiting and leaving a comment. I'm sure I would have the same problem with concentration.
DeleteI do love to travel. However, if it were completely up to me (i.e. no time or cost constraints) I would often prefer other means of travel. Can you imagine how wonderful a luxury sailboat trip across the Atlantic could be? Still, air is fast and safe and almost even affordable!
ReplyDeleteWilma: I'm with you for a sea voyage though I wouldn't like being on one of the modern cruise ships which carry thousands at a time.
DeleteSo many planes! I followed a flight last year on one of the tracker websites (can't remember now which one) as my daughter flew for the first time to Edinburgh. I've only flown twice and that was when I was in my early teens! But I do love visiting airports :)
ReplyDeleteRR: I've never flown. I'm sure, with my feelings of claustrophobia, I would have the screaming habdabs confined in such a small crowded space.
