Painted Lady and Feeding Time

A Painted Lady spent ages feeding on my Lavender bushes.
It never stopped moving so I only managed a few record shots.

The first I have seen since the last big influx in 2009

I have many House Sparrow families around the building.
Here a fledgling was being fed.

As I lifted the lid of my green waste wheelie bin I spotted

a small black beetle which I managed to photograph before it ran away.
Size about 8mm and much shinier than the photo shows.
So far I have failed to identify it.

  1. Butterflies turned up in force in my garden yesterday - and like yours they were making for the lavender.

    1. Weaver: Very few butterflies here yet. The lavender bushes were teeming with bumblebees.

  2. Is it a black ground beetle?

    1. Dave: Possibly though I can't find an exact match for one with a short dumpy body and such wide top patrs to the legs.

  3. Lovely to see the Painted Lady. There is an influx at the moment and I still haven't seen one!

    1. RR: Pure luck I think. Not see any more. I only saw one last time they invaded the UK.
