Yesterday a Blue Tit made three brief visits to the nest box. That makes visits on three days in the past seven.
No sound on this clip. I will have to see about wiring the microphone up.
Caught a bit of video of another inspection this morning.
Found out I hadn't put a cable in for the microphone and it's too late to be tinkering with the nest box now so I will have to think of some other way to capture any sound.
These visits are becoming quite frequent so fingers, etc. crossed that it may get used this year.
Oooo, methinks the tiny flutter of wings could be in the offing.
ReplyDeleteBe great if they raise some young John.
Brilliant John , I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your clips. Fingers crossed they will stay interested. Is anyone roosting in it just now?
ReplyDeleteWe sometimes get different birds viewing ours during the day and the rooster will chase them off. Unfortunately, here, the rooster doesn’t always build a nest but on chasing the interested pairs away meantime the nestbox (as happened last year) doesn’t see any nest building at all :-(
Re microphone, that is a pity if you can’t rig something up for this year. I have to say hearing what is going on, for me, is almost as good as seeing it.
Hello Keith. I can but hope. They started to build a nest last year and then abandoned it.
ReplyDeleteHello Shirl. The box seems to be attracting a lot of interest. I must sneak a camera outside to see them coming and going.
ReplyDeleteThere has been no night time activity in the box so far this year.
I get the impression watching the bird in the box that it must be making some sound - calling to a possible mate? I think I need another baby monitor so I can hear it here next to the computer ;)
These two videos were so wonderful to watch, John. From its actions, it was clearly sizing it up very well and we really hope it will persuade its mate to raise their family in it...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely looks like some interior design planning going on there John, it certainly makes me think of Spring and we have had the weather to match this last two days :)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos on the previous post. I particularly liked the Chaffinch and the Dunnock. I don't think I have ever seen a Jackdaw in my garden, certainly not for years.
It's very nice that you can watch the inside of the nest box - and even nicer for you to share with us! I hope the birds do more than just look!
ReplyDeleteHave my fingers crossed for you too John. Here's hoping! Shame about the mic, but I'm sure you'll work something out. ;^)
ReplyDeleteHow exciting! We'll just have to wait and see what develops, but certainly encouraging to see the frequency of building inspections! Where did the bits of stuff on the bottom of the nest come from? Did a bird bring them in?
ReplyDeleteHello Twosie. The bird seemed to be doing a lot of looking and thinking. A long way to go yet though.
ReplyDeleteHello Jan. Definitely having a long look and think. The weather has bee much milder here until this morning - fog and zero temperature first thing.
ReplyDeleteI was pleased with the photo of the Chaffinch sat on the washing line. It was quite close to the window but didn't seem to notice me.
Hello Mick. Being able to see inside does add more interest than just watching them come and go from outside. I can only hope they choose this box.
ReplyDeleteThank you Pam. I read that they will often start more than one nest before finally choosing one so it is a waiting and watching game.
ReplyDeleteHello Glo. I know I am excited with the prospect of them choosing this box but only time will tell if it ends up as their final choice.
ReplyDeleteI put the bits of dried grass stalk in the box after I cleaned it out. Most sites suggest that something like that is put in. Last year I used wood shavings which were all turfed out by the bird before it started to build a nest. Unfortunately they then abandoned it.
Hi John , that video of the Blue Tit is truly amazing. Thanks for posting it. You must have the "For Sale" up outside, she may be putting in an offer shortly.{:)
ReplyDeleteHello Roy. I was even more pleased to see both birds in there together yesterday, but today they seem to have given it a miss. Maybe too cold for house hunting ;)
