The White Stuff Returns

Last night I had the camcorder set up just in case there were any firework displays to let in the New Year. I was not disappointed as there was a beautiful display from a house not far away and I could watch it through the front room window. Fortunately Bobby takes little notice of the noise after the first couple of explosions and goes back to sleep. I had to use manual focus which I got wrong so here is a short extract from the five minute display.

Yesterday morning had been the first time for about ten days we could return to our usual route for the early morning walk - no snow, no ice. This morning I woke to the return of the white stuff. Not a lot as yet and quite pretty to look at

though I am not sure the garden visitors took quite the same attitude.

A Carrion Crow used its heavy beak to sweep aside the snow by moving its head from side to side so as to find any seeds left over from yesterday.

Well, here we are, a new decade - but quite honestly it doesn't look a lot different from the last one ;)

  1. The fireworks look Ok John. Suspect it will be much the same, it will go faster that's for sure.

  2. True Adrian. Each year seems to race through faster then the one before.

  3. The snow does look pretty John (probably because it is yours and not ours;)) and the bird photos are lovely. Thankfully Louis didn't seem to bothered by the fireworks and there weren't too many of those cannon ball type ones which are what really frighten him.

I hope you and Bobby have a Very Happy and Healthy New Year and do be careful on the icy paths, my husband broke his wrist badly while walking Louis on untreated pathways a few years ago.

  6. The snow looks so very pretty - just like on a Christmas card! But I'm very glad I can just look at photos and don't have to cope with that cold!! I hope 2010 is a good year for you and I look forward to more of your posts.

  8. It did look pretty from indoors Jan. If walking conditions are poor then Bobby gets a very short walk. I tore a muscle in one arm some years ago when I slipped over on the ice and I have been very cautious since then. I see our next dollop of snow is forecast for Tuesday.

  11. It looks pretty from indoors Mick. Not so nice to walk on, especially with below zero temperatures.
Thank you for your kind comment.

  12. Thank you Wilma. A sprinkling of snow does brighten up a dreary Winter view from the window.

  13. That's just how I like my snow; somewhere else or in pictures lol
It's missed here so far, thank goodness.
Take care John when you're out with Bobby, and all the best for 2010.

  14. Hello John, you don't know me.. I'm a friend of Glo's and I just popped over to say hi! What a lovely place you have here. You take all the kinds of photos I wish I could take! Ah and I see you shared in my snowfall! I think it's pretty but that is it. I come out in a hot sweat when I have to jump in the car though! I'm wishing I could move my dad nextdoor for when I snows.. I'm sure my neighbours would be glad of the extra house guest! hehehe.

  15. ...how lucky you are to see fireworks from your living room window! On a cold winter's night, that's the best. Love you shot of the little Robin Redbreast. Happy New Year!

  16. Yours are the only fireworks I saw for New Years, so that was a treat! Your front garden was dressed quite beautifully in a gown of crystalline for the occasion! Each bird looks like it is contemplating what's to come! The little Christmas Robin on the green is very sweet. We have the larger robins, so I never tire of seeing your little ones. Your wires are even displaying seasonal colorings. The crow seems to have turned its back on 2009 and ready for the next decade :)

  17. Yes Keith. That's where I would like to see it for a change. All the best to you too.

  18. Hello Daffy. Thank you for visiting and your kind comments. I am pleased I don't have to drive unless I want to these days. In the past the thought of driving to work with these conditions used to keep me awake at night.

  19. Hello Kelly. I don't like to be near fireworks but it is great to watch them from indoors in the warmth. Happy New Year to you too.

  20. Hello Glo. There are a two or three families near me who are 'firework mad' so I get a few free displays each year. What I miss is the sounds of sirens and hooters. When I lived near the fish docks in Grimsby most ships in the docks would sound in the New Year. It was a noisy but nice tradition.
