Yesterday as I was pottering round the garden enjoying the Sunshine a Peacock Butterfly fluttered across in font of me and landed on some gravel. It looked a bit worse for wear but it was another sign that Spring is with us at last.
This afternoon a Large White fluttered across the front garden but it didn't stay for a photo call.
Earlier today I looked at the frogs and frog spawn on Hedgeland Tales and left a comment to say I didn't have any yet in my pond. You could have knocked me down with a feather when I checked my pond an hour or so later and saw two clumps of Frog Spawn which had appeared out of the blue.
Not a frog in sight though. I moved the spawn to the nursery pond as there are fish in the main one. A couple of hours later there was more spawn in the main pond but still not a frog in sight.
For once I was in front. Your Peacock is in better condition than mine though. Frogs are funny things one would assume that once they started breeding all hell would be let lose. No....you can't find the beggars........another week and we'll be overrun with them. I've always suspected the first spawn is meant for fish.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how the frogspawn seems to appear from nowhere John. Same thing happened here lol
ReplyDeleteYou have beaten me on both counts John! I still haven't seen a butterfly or frogs or frog spawn. You do have the advantage of a garden pond of course but I have looked in likely places while out for the last week or so and found nothing. HLH has seen Brimstones while on his lunchtime walk with Louis on a couple of occasions recently though.
ReplyDeleteThis mild weather is definitely helping to bring out the hibernating butterflies John.
ReplyDeleteIt`s great to see that you have got some frogspawn now John!
ReplyDeleteI have seen a few butterflies over the past couple of days, Small Tortoiseshell and Brimstone, but not any Peacocks yet.

Hello Adrian. The frogs usually announce their presence, mind you there's been a lot of noise here while a neighbour has a wall knocked out to put in patio doors.
ReplyDeleteIt is Keith. Often seems to materialise out of thin air / water.
ReplyDeleteIt is Roy. Hope they get some eggs laid as it looks as though we could be back to minus temperatures at the weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt made me laugh John, the way the frogs sneaked in while I was writing about the absence of spawn.
ReplyDeleteI don't usually notice any flutters this early. Saw quite a few bumble bees about as well.
It always amazes me that with just a little encouragement on a warm Sunny day, the bumble bees and butterflies seem to wake up and take advantage of the Spring weather!
ReplyDeleteTerrific photos and nice surprise awaiting you in the pond!
ReplyDeleteThank you Glo. Five lots all told now.
