Monday was a cool but brilliantly sunny day. Several times when I went out of the back door there was a House Sparrow perched on the end of the gutter just above my head. He was chirping away so busily he hardly took any notice as I help up the TZ7 to take a few shots. The camera must have been less than four feet away while he stood out beautifully against a clear blue sky. I took a lot of shots - you wouldn't believe how many times he turned his head away just as I pressed the shutter!
He even allowed me to take a piece of video. A bit wobbly as I was holding the camera above my head to get as close as he would allow.
Wow, what a fantastically clear and close shot. I can count its feathers :) Also being able to get a great video as well was quite the feat. What with the blue sky and that photography accomplished, I'm sure the rest of the day went swimmingly.
ReplyDeleteHello Glo. The still shot shows how good the Leica lens is on the TZ7. For a camera costing £200 it can produce amazing results. I must admit I was well chuffed with the result. Yes, it was a good day for boosting vitamin levels in the sunlight ;)
ReplyDeleteHe was a very helpful model then John.
ReplyDeleteA much overlooked but actually stunning bird. Good posting
ReplyDeleteAll birds have inbuilt camera detectors. It is a little beauty.
ReplyDeleteThat camera really is excellent John! The detailed feathering it shows is quite remarkable. Nice piece of video too.
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely little bird. I think it is such a shame that we start to overlook anything which becomes familiar. I learnt my lesson well with that, after previously being the most common bird visiting the garden there was a severe decline in Sparrows a few years ago, now I welcome and appreciate every one of them and try to do the same with all the 'usual' species.
Love the picture and video John.
ReplyDeleteMy Sparrow numbers have fallen recently.
He was very co-operative Roy.
ReplyDeleteThank you W. R.. I think we often take our regulars for granted.
ReplyDeleteToo true Adrian. I wonder what percentage of time a bird vanishes just as the shutter is pressed.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jan. I can get just as much enjoyment out of my regulars as I do from something more exotic dropping in from time to time.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty around the village at the moment. It can be quite deafening passing some hedges hereabouts.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shot John and a great video, so glad I got the same compact after seeing your results a while back, superb little camera.
ReplyDeleteBest shot of a House Sparrow I've ever seen. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThank you Paul. I am often amazed by what this little pocket camera can do. I often use it for close up work.
ReplyDeleteThank you Angie. It helped being able to get so close to the subject.
