The harvest has been gathered in. The field ploughed.
Now it's the time of year to hook up the disc harrow which has been waiting at the side of the field to finally break up the ground ready for sowing the next crop.
Waiting at the far end of the field is the usual gathering of gulls ready to feast on worms, grubs and anything else edible turned up by the harrow.
I am somewhat amazed they still harrow. I was in Lincolnshire and saw contractors re-seeding with air drills. That was four years ago.
ReplyDeleteYour fields stretch as far as the eye can see.
Adrian: Maybe it depends on the size of the farm and what the crops are.
Deletemy father used to work for farmers in wisconsin. discing was often his autumn job. :)
ReplyDeleteTWG: I don't envy farm workers. Having to fit in with weather conditions it can mean very long hours on suitable days.
