Autumn

Season of mists ......

DSCN3461

...... and mellow fruitfulness

DSCN3462

So starts John Keats poem "To Autumn" and that is just what it has been like here for the past few days. Thick cloud, mists with only occasional glimpses of the Sun.

Also spotted the usual start of Fall (Autumn):

The beginnings of next Spring's crop of catkins growing on my corkscrew hazel bush:

These are only 7mm long and will stay tightly closed until the return of warmth when they will grow and open to about 50 to 60mm long.

  1. An atmospheric opening picture. The blackberries seem very late this year.

    1. Adrian. Those were West facing. South facing ones are riper but with 16 days without rain they are small this year.

  2. quite a few blackberries there, John. We forego autumn (sigh) and winter (yea!) for a spell of rainy followed by delightful subtropical "winter". I am more than happy with that exchange, but do enjoy photos from temperate climes.

    1. Wilma: These days autumn feels short here, seems to go rapidly from Summer to Winter temperatures these days.

    1. TWG. One good thing about fog is it cuts down noise, especially traffic noise.
