Just how good is the 5Mpixel camera in the iPod Touch5?
Yesterday I spotted a spider in its web between a water butt and the shed so I took close shots with the Nikon S9050 (which has 12.1Mpixels) and the iPod Touch5. I took three hand held shots with each as the web was moving in a gentle breeze and chose the best result from each camera. On the iPod I used the Camera+ app.
First the full shots:

Then crops which were auto enhanced in iPhoto:

As far as I am concerned the 5Mpixel camera in the iPod Touch5 does an outstanding job!
That is impressive; I assume the iPod has a glass lens.
ReplyDeleteAdrian. It's 5 element 3.3mm f2.4 auto focus. If it's the same build as the iPhone5 then it's made from sapphire crystal.
DeleteBTW, I expect you know it is a Garden Spider: Araneus diadematus. Sometimes known as a Cross Spider. They are beautiful.
DeleteI never realised so much went into an iPhone lens but my sister has one and it is brilliant if you don't want the challenge of a cwt. of gear and the ability to print large. Not that I print many but not many are good enough. Why sRaw is borderline for broadcast video is a mystery to me when I see televisions. I see Dolby have an HDR television system out for licence. That should be a vast improvement.
Lovely spider and web. Both photos are excellent.
ReplyDeleteWilma: Garden spiders can be surprisingly beautiful when seen close up.
Deletewow! i'd say so!
ReplyDeleteTWG: No doubt one reason Apple equipment is so expensive.
DeleteI think viewing these pictures on the web, anyone would be hard pressed to know which picture came from what camera. They both look good to me.
ReplyDeletePrinting large would be a different matter I suppose, but how many people on here do that?
Keith: The phone cameras are really only made of use with places like Instagram so are perfectly good for internet work like blogging.
DeleteCertainly did John. There is pixels and there is pixels and they can be different densities in themselves.
ReplyDeleteThat's true Roy. Having millions of pixels doesn't guarantee brilliant results.
DeleteYou chose a very handsome spider, he looks good in all the photos, I didn't know spiders had spikes on their legs like that.
ReplyDeleteGlennis: Thank you for visiting and leaving a comment. Quite a few spiders seem to have spikes or bristles on their legs.
