My folks pond used to have lots of toads and newts, then it became too cluttered with plants and rotting leaf litter which made it rather anoxic, I'd say.

ReplyDeleteAdrian: Thank you. I think the bit you are referring to is just a dead remaining part of a pond plant left over from last year. Mares tail or similar.
