    1. Adrian: Thank you. I think the bit you are referring to is just a dead remaining part of a pond plant left over from last year. Mares tail or similar.

  4. My folks pond used to have lots of toads and newts, then it became too cluttered with plants and rotting leaf litter which made it rather anoxic, I'd say.
