Speckled Wood

There have been quite a few Speckled Wood butterflies recently around the Ivy at the bottom of the garden:

They were the ones which seemed to trying chase the Holly Blue butterflies last week.

  1. Good to see them. It has been a terrible year for butterflies with the exception of Ringlets.

  2. They are hanging on in very well round here. I'd say that some species have done OK, second flight holly blues did very well. It must all be about the timing.

  3. One of my favourite butterflies John, they are so understated.
    We have had so very few butterflies up here - our buddleia had none.
