Friday at the Flicks - Experimental Nestbox Live Video Stream

Since I changed my router I have found that I can now stream live video from the Great Tit Nestbox.

Click HERE to access the stream which should open in a new window. It may take a few seconds for the picture to appear. I'm not sure yet how long or how often I will use this facility. Experimental as yet.

One thing I have found - unfortunately the video will not show on iPads or iPhones as it uses Flash which is not available on these devices. Camstreams are developing apps for Android and iOS and hope to have them available in a few months time.

If you have problems viewing the video stream on a PC or Mac have a look at the Camstreams help page HERE,

  1. Very cool! The GT was resting with head tucked down behind and tail facing. Should prove interesting to watch :)

Not sure yet what to put for Monday's guess - do you know if your puzzle plant is something that grows in Canada as well?

  2. Should get interesting once eggs have started to hatch.

Probably - the plant is native to North America as well as some other parts of the world.

  3. Couldn't watch the stream John. Pop up said I needed a Windows Media Player 11 plugin which was not available. I don't have tits this year... would be great to watch yours!

    1. That is a shame Matron. Unfortunately Camstreams uses flash for their video so it won't work without the Adobe Flash player. Not sure why there was any mention of Windows Media Player as it normally plays in whatever browser you are using, providing the Adobe Flash player plugin is installed.

  4. Hi again John, don’t know what happened with my comment there (if it got through please delete it) having keyboard issues.

I was delighted to read that you had nesting Great tits again this year. What fun to see your Great tit Mum sitting brooding just now. Fingers crossed you have a successful brood that others can see too :-)

I’ve considered Camstreams in the past too but as there are a few of us in the house using our bandwidth I was wary. No nestbox action here anyway.

For the first time ever, we had a roosting Blue tit all summer long last year. This year we’ve also had a rooster all the way up to/just past nest building time. I’m wondering if this could be males deliberately occupying a nestbox to reduce competition for food for chicks in my area/garden. Another thought might be that my garden is just too busy now (good population of Blackbirds and finches) and the location of our box has become a problem. Loving watching all the action live through my window though :-D

    1. Hello Shirl. No other comment received.

It is nice to see the box in use again this year. I wanted to stream some video last year but couldn't get my last router to allow a connection. The new router seems to do things automatically.

I've looked at some other sites. Some give better quality but interrupt the stream with adverts and many have too many 'adult' channels. Not that I disapprove as such but I don't know the age range of visitors to this blog so won't take the chance of redirecting younger readers to uncontrolled video sites.

Like your garden mine is very busy with lots of birds visiting but the nestbox is in a secluded position and gets little disturbance.

  5. I haven't been able to view it yet John as I am usually on the iPad these days but will get the laptop out later and have a peek. Congrats on setting it up, I will pop back later on.

    1. The result isn't brilliant as it is a free low bit rate service but better than nothing.

  6. I meant to also say, further to your last post and the comment I left, we had reason to ring Talktalk on Friday to enquire why their call barring service, which we had recently added to our package at an additional three pounds something a month, is restricted to just ten numbers. We get a ridiculous amount of unwanted marketing calls and found that once the ten number limit was reached the first number would drop off the end and be reinstated! Trying to get a simple, straight answer from them would have been funny if it wasn't sooo frustrating! After being repeatedly asked 'why is the service restricted to ten numbers' they finally came up with a straight answer...'because it's restricted to ten numbers'!!! Needless to say we have cancelled their extra 'service' We have now invested in a device which attaches to the phone and should do the job for us. It hasn't arrived yet but hopefully will do a more efficient job than Talktalk!

    1. If it's a TruCall unit you have invested in then I can heartily recommend it. I have used one for a few years. Works well, excellent backup from their help line.

Thank you for visiting. Hope you enjoyed the pictures. Any comment, or correction to any information or identification I get wrong, is most welcome. John
